A 14-year-old boy opened fire at a school in the city of Kahramanmaras in southern Turkey on Wednesday, killing nine people and wounding 13 others, officials said. The gunman was later killed.
Kahramanmaras Governor Mukerrem Unluer stated the attacker arrived at the school armed with five firearms and seven magazines. The weapons are believed to belong to his father, a retired police officer.
The shooting occurred at the Gaffar Okkan Middle School. The wounded were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed the death toll and said a detailed probe is underway. The motive for the attack remains unclear.
