Russian air defense systems intercepted over 60 drones targeting Moscow and the wider Moscow region on March 14, according to statements from Russian officials. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin and the Russian Ministry of Defense reported the large-scale attack, which they attributed to Ukrainian forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry stated that air defense units destroyed or intercepted 61 drones overnight. Several drones were reportedly downed over the Moscow region, with debris causing minor damage to infrastructure but no serious casualties initially reported. Flights were temporarily suspended at Moscow's Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky airports during the incident.

Ukrainian officials have not officially claimed responsibility for the attack. The incident represents one of the largest reported drone assaults on the Russian capital since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Analysts note such strikes have increased in frequency, targeting energy and military infrastructure deep inside Russia.

The attack occurred as Russian forces continue their offensive operations in eastern Ukraine. Both sides have increasingly utilized drone technology for long-range strikes, marking a significant evolution in the conflict's warfare tactics.
