Saudi Arabia's Defense Ministry reported on Friday the successful interception and destruction of multiple Iranian drones that had violated the kingdom's airspace, marking another escalation in regional tensions.

In a series of posts on social media platform X, the Saudi Defense Ministry initially confirmed the "interception and destruction of nine drones after they entered the airspace," followed by an updated statement reporting "interception and destruction of seven drones after they entered the airspace."

The ministry had earlier announced during Friday dawn that defensive operations were underway to counter the aerial intrusion. The incident represents the latest in a series of drone attacks that have targeted Saudi territory in recent months.

This airspace violation comes amid heightened regional tensions and underscores the ongoing security challenges facing Saudi Arabia. The kingdom has invested heavily in air defense systems to protect its territory from such incursions.
