PETALING JAYA: Former world No. 1 men's doubles player Marcus Fernaldi Gideon of Indonesia conducted a training session with players at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM). The visit provided an opportunity for the Malaysian national squad to learn from the retired champion's expertise.
Gideon, who retired from international badminton in early 2024, is in Malaysia for personal engagements. During the session, he participated in drills and shared insights on doubles strategy and high-level competition with the athletes.
The Indonesian star, who formed the legendary "Minions" partnership with Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, expressed his interest in pursuing a coaching career. His visit was facilitated by existing relationships with the Malaysian coaching staff.
National coaches welcomed the cross-border exchange, noting the value of exposing their players to different playing styles and mental approaches from one of the sport's most successful doubles specialists.
