A heli-skier died in an avalanche near Golden, British Columbia, on Sunday, March 16, 2026. The incident occurred in the Gorman Lake area, approximately 30 kilometres southeast of Golden.
Golden and District Search and Rescue (GADSAR) responded to the scene. According to a statement from GADSAR, the avalanche was triggered by the group the skier was with. The victim was recovered from the snow but was pronounced deceased.
The BC Coroners Service has confirmed it is investigating the death. Avalanche Canada had issued a special public avalanche warning for the region, which was in effect until March 17, due to a persistent weak layer in the snowpack.
This marks the second avalanche fatality in British Columbia during the 2025-26 winter season. The incident underscores the ongoing high avalanche danger in the province's interior mountain ranges.
