The scandal surrounding mislabeled AMD Ryzen 5 7430U processors is expanding, with new reports suggesting a second laptop manufacturer may be involved. The issue, first identified by German tech outlet Notebookcheck, centers on laptops sold with the 7430U branding that contain a different, older Zen 2 architecture CPU instead of the advertised Zen 3.

Notebookcheck's investigation, which began in late 2025, found the discrepancy in laptops from at least one brand, with the original design manufacturer (ODM) Quanta Computer identified as the common link. The ODM is now under intense scrutiny for its role in the supply chain. AMD has publicly stated that the 7430U is a Zen 3 part and that it is investigating the reports of mis-specification with its partners.

The technical impact is significant: the mislabeled CPUs, believed to be the older Ryzen 5 7530U, offer lower performance due to the older Zen 2 architecture, misleading consumers who paid for a newer generation product. The exact scale of the issue remains unclear, but it raises serious questions about quality control in the laptop manufacturing process.

As of March 2026, no widespread recalls have been announced. Consumer advice remains to verify CPU specifications using tools like CPU-Z or HWiNFO, which read the hardware's internal identifiers rather than relying on the marketing labels provided by the operating system.
